Water inlet, drain and overflow combined into one product. That sounds like a clever solution. But it also sounds like a complicated component that probably cannot be fitted on designer bathtubs. Viega has thought about the solution and now presents the new Multiplex Trio MT5 at the ISH show in Frankfurt. With its narrow body, it fits perfectly on and below the rim of bathtubs currently en vogue.
Multiplex Trio Visign MT5 is a new structural and designer concept from Viega and was produced in cooperation with design office Artefakt Industriekultur from Darmstadt. The task was to find a solution that presents a harmonic unit – without sacrificing quality – and also fits well with modern designer bathtubs. The solution encompassed all of the technical advantages of the renowned Multiplex Trio bathtub fitting set, such as water inlet, integrated overflow and drainage in one product whilst fitting in with new modern bathtubs.
The result is displayed on the bathtub rim in a reduced, slimmer operating element and below the bathtub rim with a minimal construction depth of only 33 mm.
The new Multiplex Trio MT5 has already been awarded the coveted “red dot” and “Design Plus powered by ISH”. This is a first indication of the future success of the narrow bathtub fitting.

The red dot award: product design 2011 is an internationally recognized competition. The red dot award is a quality seal for excellent design and has a good reputation among industry experts. This year about 1,700 companies from 60 countries have submitted a total of 4,433 entries for the competition. The Design Centre of North Rhine-Westphalia awards the red dot prize for projects with outstanding design quality. Reputable designers and design experts from around the world are involved to guarantee maximum objectivity in the selection of winning products. Their decisions are made independently and jury members change each year, ensuring a high degree of objectivity and fairness. The jury evaluates submitted products according to different criteria such as innovation, functionality, formal quality, ergonomics, symbolic and emotional content and the self-explanatory aspect of each product.
Design Plus powered by ISH
Sustainable, outstanding design and functional – these are all features demonstrated by the 33 products awarded with the “Design Plus powered by ISH” prize at the ISH in Frankfurt am Main. At the world-leading trade fair for innovative bathroom design, sustainable sanitary solutions and environmentally friendly building technology, a total of 145 companies submitted 254 products for the exhibitors’ competition. 20 of the winning products were from the ISH Water sector and 13 within the ISH Energy sector. In addition to technical, ecological and design quality, the key criteria for the jury were materials selection, practical value and overall design concept. The Messe Frankfurt in cooperation with the German Design Council awards the “Design Plus powered by ISH” prize.
