Array Tower

The mixed-use Array Tower comprises apartments, retail space, community areas and a gymnasium.

Copper piping system for drinking water and gas

Set over 39 levels, the Array tower (Tower 6) at Victoria’s Melbourne Docklands was one of Australia’s largest construction projects. A mixed-use property, it features 205 residential apartments, 280 sqm of retail space, 680 sqm of community space and a gymnasium. Located on the edge of the Yarra River as part of the vast 14-hectare Docklands initiative, it was developed by the Mirvac Group and was officially opened in June 2015.

Rapid and safe installation

Opting to weld the building’s extensive pipework would have caused major OH&S issues, so contractors Project Developments contacted Viega and finally decided to use the copper press system Profipress (Australian standard).

”Viega products are reliable, neat, flexible, and fast to install,” says Phil Clough, project manager with Project Developments. The company specified the full range of copper fittings (from DN 15 to DN 100) for both gas and water installations. Viega also provided assistance and technical training.

According to Phil Clough, there have been significant benefits to using Viega Profipress: “Less labour was required for installation, plus we have confidence in the fittings and tools’ calibration to overcome user errors and hot works issues,” he says.
