The Talking Stick Resort & Casino is a 15-storey resort at Indian Bend in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA. It features almost 500 rooms, a 13,000-square-foot luxury spa and the Talking Stick Golf Club. The showpiece of the resort is the casino – a 240,000-square-foot gaming floor complete with eight restaurants, ten lounges and a 750-seat entertainment showroom.
Casey Reed, Project Director with Kinetics, a full-service mechanical contractor, said that the construction and design of the casino itself was complicated by the individual room designs and the unfavourable weather. So rather than risk the potential for work-related injuries, Reed sought a safe, reliable option and found it in Viega’s piping systems. “They were the only press systems that proved consistent and reliable,” Reed said. “And we needed that reassurance.”
Savings of time and labour
Viega products simplified what could have been a very complicated construction process. Kinetics convinced the architect and engineer that installing the Profipress and Sanpress Inox systems (both US standard) as well as ViegaPEX tubing in the Talking Stick Resort would save time and labour. The contractor used Profipress copper fittings and Sanpress Inox stainless steel fittings and pipes in sizes ½" to 4" as well as Viega PEX tubing in sizes ½" and ¾".
“We installed probably 700 feet of Sanpress Inox in a day and a half,” Kinetics Labour Manager John Niedosik said. “It would have taken us weeks to do that same section with a welded system; not only that, welded connections take special equipment, a lot of preparation and tools that are expensive.”
Anything that Kinetics installs in copper is now even done with Profipress. “We have changed our methods from solder to press on the plumbing and mechanical side,” Reed said.
