Drinking water installation with Viega piping systems
The old section of Terminal A at Chopin International Airport in Warsaw, Poland, was refurbished in the years 2013 and 2014. The building has been completely modernised and linked to the new section of the terminal. It accommodates many new check-in counters as well as security gates and new equipment for sorting baggage. The modernisation also encompassed the installation of new piping systems, including those for drinking water.
Quick and safe installation
The installation contractor opted to work with Viega piping systems for the drinking water installation. Sections with the largest diameters of 88.9 mm were fitted out with the Sanpress system that consists of stainless steel pipes and gunmetal press connectors. For smaller diameters, approx. 9,000 copper press connectors from the Profipress system were used.
The decisive factor for the use of Viega piping systems was the quick and safe press connection technology. This allows time savings of up to 50% compared to traditional methods of joining pipes. In addition, cold pressing instead of soldering or welding substantially reduces the risk of error by the contractor. It also has a significant influence on the occupational safety because there is no need to work with open flames. An additional safety feature is the patented SC-Contur that all Viega press connectors are equipped with. It guarantees that any joints which have inadvertently been left unpressed are immediately detected during the leak test.
