Shipbuilding with Viega Profipress
Fincantieri, one of the world's most important shipbuilding groups, with headquarters in Castellammare di Stabia, Italy, has built the ferry FA Gauthier with a length 133 metres and a width of 22 metres. The ship of the Canadian shipping company Société des Traversiers du Québec cycles the Matane-Baie-Comeau-Godbout route in Canada. It transports up to 800 passengers and 180 vehicles, meeting the highest standards in terms of energy savings and low environmental impact. The first liquid natural gas powered ferry built in Italy is a perfect example for the application of innovative technology, which includes Viega Profipress connectors for the drinking water installation.
Press connectors made of copper
Over 12,000 Viega Profipress press connectors made of copper were used inside the ferry. The press system for copper piping has a DVGW compliance certification and is compliant with the Italian norm UNI 11065 with regards to Class 1 press connections.
A distinctive feature of Profipress connectors is, as with all Viega press connectors, the certified SC-Contur that shows up any forgotten pressings at the first filling of the system or during a leakage test.
