Pressing instead of welding for more rapid security of supply
Work on underground pipes outside is always subject to the elements. If this results in delays, the entire project schedule can be compromised. After all, with both new systems and refurbishment projects, various trades have to work closely together. The municipal utilities Ludwigsburg-Kornwestheim GmbH have come up with an exemplary approach for adhering to the very tight schedule for the "Inner city Kornwestheim framework concept". During road renovation measures, the gas and water supply lines were refurbished at the same time.
The use of press technology for laying the pipes was all-important in the successful coordination of work.
Time and cost savings thanks to press technology
After studying the binding construction schedule, the municipal utilities decided against the well-established electrofusion welding method for laying the gas and water domestic connections: Low temperatures and rain can cause serious delays with this connection technique. The prolonged cooling of the welded connections – during which they cannot be subjected to axial or radial movements – amounts to further unproductive waiting time. This is not the case with the Geopress system: It connects underground pipes for water and gas using the so-called "cold pressing technique". The system connectors are made of gunmetal. They are pressed together mechanically within seconds.
