Smartloop Inliner technology cuts energy consumption
Built in the sixties, the Het Breed residential district of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, became Europe’s biggest housing revitalisation project 45 years later. To realise the ambitious goals of this renovation, the risers in the installation for hot drinking water were fitted with Viega’s Smartloop Inliner system. The reason for this is that, unlike conventional circulation, the system cuts the heat loss from radiation by about 30 percent.
25 kilometres of pipe and around 25,000 press connectors
With efficient heating systems, insulated external walls, window frames and external doors plus around 1200 m² of solar panels on its roofs, Het Breed was a prestige housing renovation project on a large scale – and one that was part-funded by the European Union for that reason. For the drinking water installation the choice fell on Viega’s copper piping system Profipress. In the more than three kilometres of riser pipes for hot water it was combined with the Smartloop Inliner technology. Contractors also opted for Viega’s Prestabo press connection system made of galvanized steel when upgrading the heating system.
In all, nearly 25 kilometres of pipe and around 25,000 press fittings in a huge variety of types and sizes were installed. Viega’s uniform press connection technology proved invaluable. The system’s benefits come into their own on renovation projects such as this: there is no fire hazard because there is no open flame work – installation is simple even behind the old and slightly lowered ceilings – and the pipe connections are made significantly more quickly.
