Exemplary drinking water hygiene in a home for dementia patients
Generously sized individual rooms, all with their own bathroom, together with shared living and dining areas. The feeling of belonging is strengthened by an open kitchen which allows patients to cook together. In the sheltered garden all the residents are able to enjoy nature and the changing seasons. This is the intelligent concept developed by Schottener Soziale Dienste gGmbH in Kirberg, Germany, for senior citizens with very special needs: For dementia patients.
The building complex offers an attractive and safe home to four house communities each with 12 residents. The concept also required a carefully planned and implemented drinking water installation. Over the course of the project, Viega was able to offer the necessary support with its know-how and products.
Optimised pipe dimensions
The utmost priority was minimising the system volumes. After all, the regular exchange of water through all usage areas protects against contamination from stagnation. As such, it is not only the risers, made of the stainless steel piping system Sanpress Inox, which feature optimised dimensions. With this in mind, the manifold and connecting pipes in particular were implemented using the Raxofix piping system. Thanks to the flow rate-optimised connectors the pressures available with this system can be optimally used to ensure a convenient supply with very "slim" sizes.
In addition, two bathrooms on two consecutive storeys are connected to the same ring system. This guarantees the continuous exchange of water if in one room normal operation is either not possible or only possible to a limited extent due to the resident being temporarily bed-ridden.
Easytop extraction valves
During the operating phase, the quality of the drinking water can be checked by the health authorities by taking regular samples. In a logical step during planning, the positioning of the Easytop extraction valves was planned together with the hygiene experts.
