Houseboat

This barge in Ghent, Belgium, has been renovated as a houseboat and equipped with a surface tempering system from Viega.

Unconventional surface tempering solution

Is it really possible to install a surface tempering system on a houseboat? With Fonterra Reno from Viega the answer is yes. The system is not only suitable for conventional living solutions as its use on a houseboat in the Belgian city of Ghent shows.

Dominiek Schaffrath from installation contractors Sandak in Ghent says “Compared with conventional underfloor heating systems you gain at least 10 centimetres of construction height which offers a whole range of new possibilities. Thanks to Viega’s Fonterra Reno I can easily install a powerful surface tempering system on sites where very small construction heights are possible.”

A step further

“Here we actually went a step further”, adds Dominiek Schaffrath “and installed a Viega surface tempering system under the bathroom’s ceiling as well. Here again, Fonterra Reno proved its worth.”

Overall, 149 base and 51 head panels were easily installed by a single person and offer excellent support for the 1,015 metres of PB piping. And that too is a great advantage, especially on a boat where floor surfaces can often be unpredictable as they ‘respond’ to external influences.

Light weight

The client and architect Kristof Devos adds “I was really delighted that Viega could offer me the ideal solution of installing surface tempering on my houseboat. And the light weight of the Fonterra Reno dry installation system was a very welcome extra bonus.”
