Copper press technology for museum in Lyon
The “Musée des Confluences” in Lyon is one of the most ambitious projects undertaken in recent years in the Rhone-Alpes region. Located at the meeting point of the Rhone and Saone rivers, the museum is housed in a monumental glass structure designed by Coop Himmelb(l)au, an Austrian agency which is known worldwide for its architecture of the “deconstructionist” school. This building with its futuristic architecture extends over an area of 27,000 m2. An immense concrete base supports a glassed area of 1,900 m2 and the “cloud”, a structure with a surface area of 11,000 m2 that houses the exhibition rooms. The project cost more than 250 million euros and was funded entirely by the Rhone-Alpes regional government.
Viega Profipress
As the outcome of a call for tenders, the Jean Moos installation company, located in Amplepuis, was awarded the contract for the sanitary plumbing works. That included the water supply for 80 toilets and 80 washbasins.
In the opinion of Pascal Magnin, the technical director at Moos, making the pipe connections using Viega’s Profipress piping system provided an optimal quality of installation. “At our company, which earns approximately 30% of its revenue working in hospitals, Viega technology has become a standard,” Magnin said.
All in all, the installer used 6,000 metres of copper piping together with Profipress connectors of dimensions between DN 15 and DN 35.
