Quick and "silent" heating installation with Megapress
The KWP care provider has been providing senior citizens in the Austrian capital with comfortable and need-based accommodation since 1960. The services offered by KWP have adapted continually in line with social changes. Indeed, this non-profit provider has often defined new living and care standards. Take for example the structural restoration of the pensioners' residence in the beautiful Augarten park in Vienna. The aim here was to provide the residents in the 252 units with better care in the case of dementia. At the same time, for purely business reasons, the building was brought in line with the low-energy standard.
Conversion during ongoing use
The saying goes: You shouldn't uproot old trees. For this reason, the conversion of the pensioners' residence was handled in two phases during ongoing use: After refurbishment of one half of the building, the residents moved into the new rooms whilst the second half was tackled. In order to reduce the stress levels for the senior citizens, the tradesmen didn't work over the lunchtime rest hours and did not do any noisy work after 5 p.m.
This, however, made the schedule even tighter. One of the particular challenges during modernisation of the heating system was that the hot water supply had to be guaranteed at all times. For this reason, the experts used the Megapress press technology for installation of the heating pipes made of thick-walled steel. This meant a lot of time was saved – 60 percent and more depending on the dimensions and positioning – compared to laborious welding of the around 4,000 connectors. After all, time-consuming mirror welding of hard-to-reach points was also not necessary. With the press rings which are placed around the press connectors, the press machine can be positioned in every angle with a hinged press jaw.
