Housing with a maritime flair and hexagonal floor heating
"Pilot house", "Starboard lockout" and "Captain's bridge", the names given to the apartments in the residential development on the Schlei bridge in Kappeln, Germany, truly reflect the unique character of the Baltic coast. To give all the residents of the 27 units an unobstructed view of the reedy bank with its wonderful marinas and historic harbour landscape in the background, exceptional architecture was opted for: The main floor plan which extends over the three storeys of the building is an elongated hexagon. Depending on the desired flat size and use, two or even all three of the storeys are connected via their own stairways.
Floor heating with complex layout
The absolutely uniform radiant heating from the flooring creates a cosy and warm atmosphere in these exceptional rooms. However, the special floor plans, the layouts of the rooms and the stairway connections for the living areas required lots of cutting. This normally costs a considerable amount of time and material. Yet this is not the case with Fonterra Base Roll 15.
Fonterra Base Roll 15
The floor heating system from Viega combines the benefits of predefined pipe fixation as seen with studded panels, with the flexibility of tacker panels. Viega has developed pipe clips for the so-called roll mat which are pre-assembled on an insulating panel made of expanded polystyrene. The mounting brackets boast a number of structural features in order to enable very flexible adaptation to complex room geometries with lots of cut-outs. The pipes can be laid precisely and quickly either in a straight line or diagonally. Installation spacing of 11, 22 and 33 cm is provided for at the factory in order to determine the amount of heat emitted in line with how the room is used. As such, zones near the windows can be laid more closely than inside wall areas.
This system could be easily cut using a standard cutter knife and there was only very little waste.
