Thermal well-being thanks to radiant heat makes learning easier
The secondary school in the town of Ehrenfriedersdorf in the Erz mountains, Germany, is an architectural jewel which has been reconstructed in classical style with great attention to detail. Naturally a building of this nature is listed. The comprehensive energy-efficient refurbishment thus demanded both creative and technically unconventional solutions.
Reducing heat losses and increasing heating surfaces
The planners and technicians reduced the huge amount of heat lost from the old building by installing mineral inside insulation measuring up to 10 cm in thickness. They combined this with wall heating from the Fonterra range. Since the existing panel radiators had to be replaced either way, the additional expenditure for the radiant heating and cooling system consisted merely in the application of a second layer of plaster.
Fonterra Side Clip
Thanks to insulation and large-format heat radiation with a supply and return temperature of 40/35°C, the construction experts expect a 40% drop in energy consumption. More than 1,100 m² of the wall heating system Fonterra Side Clip were installed in the school. In the smaller classrooms it was sufficient to fit just the outside wall. In the larger rooms on the other hand some of the heating circuits had to be extended up to directly below the ceiling or into the inside walls. The fact that the polybutene pipe measuring 12 x 1.3 mm can be bent into even the smallest radii was one of the key advantages of the Fonterra Side Clip system.
The result: A uniform vertical temperature level and a reduced draught ensure greater thermal comfort which, in turn, makes learning even easier..
