Pressing technology speeds up new dealership construction
The demands of owners on their cars and what those cars require from the workshops are growing just as quickly as technology progresses. Today's dealerships have to meet this demand. One of the most modern ones in Austria is being built by Porsche Inter Auto in Klagenfurt, for the Skoda brand.
The 110 metre long and 3,500 square meter complex had to be completed in a period of only seven months. There is no margin for error. This is why the HVAC company chose Viega piping systems and press technology.
Top-speed over 1,400 metres
Every service area in the dealership has to be supplied with heating and drinking water. The workshops also require a compressed-air supply. A total of 1,400 metres of piping had to be installed. Depending on the application involved, from different Viega piping systems: Galvanised steel pipe for heating and compressed air (Prestabo), exemplary hygienic stainless steel (Sanpress Inox) for the main drinking water distribution and flexible plastic pipe (Raxofix) for connections to extraction points. A total of 1,500 connectors had to be pressed for this in a very short period of time.
Full speed ahead with Pressgun 5
Frequent overhead working, narrow areas, lots of elbows, changing dimensions, different pipe materials – there were a lot of "harassments" that simply slow down the assembly process. However, the press tool Pressgun 5 enabled the installers to work at full speed: "The press machine can be used in any angle. It's much easier with press rings than, for example, chains", is something the HVAC installers have learned. Pressgun 5 also made it possible to press every piping system. Press jaws can simply be changed to match the connector and dimension.
A full tank, all the time
The fastest car is of little use if the tank is empty. By the same token, the fastest press technology means nothing on the construction site if parts are missing. However, providing supplies in good time – even where special connectors are needed quickly – is not a problem at all with Viega piping systems, according to the project manager at the HVAC company: "All the Viega parts were always at the construction site on time. This is also thanks to the excellent cooperation with the local specialised wholesale trade." A smooth start-to-finish win in only seven months for the Skoda dealership.
