Thermal spa Bad Waltersdorf

Fresh and fit for the future in just six weeks

Bad Waltersdorf is famous in Austria and beyond for the healing power of its thermal waters. People have been coming here to relax and unwind from the stresses of day-to-day life in this spa with adjacent hotel for more than three decades. Yet the time had come for the thermal spa itself to take a break. The entire complex was to be modernised; the rustic ambience of the 1980s was to be replaced with a puristic design reflective of the 21st century. However, this break couldn't be too long: A construction site in place of guests is costly.

Reopening party after six weeks

When the thermal spa closed its doors to guests, the date for reopening was already set. The reopening party was a mere six weeks away.

In addition to external rejuvenation, "internal revitalisation" was also on the agenda; i.e., technical and energy-efficiency refurbishment. This included new piping for the heating system. Some 400 metres of thick-walled steel pipe with around 900 connectors had to be connected in a confined space. To adhere to the tight schedule, Viega’s press connection system Megapress was used. With this system connections can be pressed in around 60 seconds whilst standard welding takes minutes. Moreover, the risk of fire was also avoided; a key factor on this site with numerous different tradesmen working closely together.

Megapress for and in every situation

With such time-critical projects like the thermal spa in Bad Waltersdorf the fact that Viega had just the right connectors in its Megapress range for every installation situation cannot be underestimated. Whether sleeves, elbows, threaded adaptors or caps in six dimensions from 1/2 to 2 inches – all eventualities were covered. This doesn't just mean the connectors were in the catalogue but rather they were available on site in good time. This is one of the reasons why the thermal spa was able to reopen with a fresh new look and fit for the future in just six weeks.
